Flowers are a popular and lovely way to express thoughts and emotions. We want the flower arrangement to remain as beautiful as the day we sent or received them. The expected life span of a bouquet of flowers is typically 4 to 7 days. Depending on the flowers and how well you care for them, flowers can last longer that the expected life span there are things we can do to help them last much longer.
Here are some tips to help extend the life of your floral arrangement:
- Keep the floral foam or vase filled with fresh warm water. Make sure all of the stems are submerged if it’s a vase arrangement.
- Excessive heat will cause the flowers to dehydrate and petals to wilt much faster than normal. Make sure your floral arrangement is kept in a cool spot (65 to 75 degrees). Keep your flowers away from vents, on top of televisions, and even sunny windows.
- Try to avoid displaying your flowers near your refrigerator. They emit a type of humidity that can harm the flowers. Avoid putting them directly under ceiling fans. Also, fruits and vegetables release enzymes that can harm them so don’t get too close.
- Remove dying flowers daily. Decaying flowers can cause flower-killing organisms, which can clog stem ends also. Every two days, cut the stem at a slant of 1 to 1 1/2 inches and replace the water.
